InHabit: a History

Architecture. What is it?

To some it is buildings, others frozen music.

To us at InHabit it is building the future we want to see.

InHabit is the collaboration between 4 Sydney architects who have more years in the industry than Jeff Bezos has cold hard cash.

But their experience left them wondering,

"Is this it?"

We watched the buildings being built, we oversaw their design, we participated in their construction.

But enough is enough.

Inspired by Melbourne-based Breathe architects, whose Nightingale keystone project walked so that InHabit could run, we design for people, not for those selling to them.

By collaborating with our investors/future residents, whom we call Vertical Homeowners, we create homes in the city.

Why InHabit?

You see, in Sydney's property development market, a typical unit costs 350k.

⅓ of that is land cost, unavoidable.

⅓ is the actual build

⅓ is the developers profit

So yes, yes you certainly can buy with a developer. But consider this.

What if we removed the developer from the picture?

But why does that matter?

A developer does not know who you are. They are building for a generic demographic.

This limits design - not only does this mean the aesthetic wont match yours, but there will be features you do not want, cannot change, but have paid for.

Without the developer we, the architects, take control of the project.

Here is where InHabit shines - as a multidisciplinary firm, we can deliver a project that is catered to you the client; is site specific; and is environmentally conscientious.

You and InHabit.

The real problem lies in capital, to afford to cut the developer out, we need alot of money.

Our solution? Well, how is this different to buying your own home in the suburbs?

You see, the people funding it will be the people living in the building. The only stakeholders are yourself, the residents, and us, the architects.

We can do whatever we want!

In other words, we replace the developer with a specific, select, cohesive group of people.

After our initial selection, everyone must be agreed upon by everyone else involved in a democratic process.

Everyone fronts their funding source, everyone understands the risk, no one wants someone else pulling out.

InHabit builds your future home, and introduces you to your neighbours all at the same time, only now you own city real estate in a community you've built.

Why do we InHabit?

A Captial investment is one that accrues wealth over time. We create financial, and social captial investments.

If we think in terms of buildings then a good building can be seen as a capital investment, returning more revenue into the future.

A good quality building also has capital gain, because it is a joy to live and be there.

A good building is not one designed for maximum occupancy, it is designed for people, the environment, and life.

Our goal is quality architectural work, uninterrupted by a higher up third party, only attached to the project at the velcro wallet.

When People look at your home, they are envious, When People look at the outside, they are joyful,

When History looks at our work they praise it for contributing positively to our world.
